The Nigerian was on target twice for Sigi Schmid’s men as they swept aside Orlando City in a Major League Soccer game played on Sunday
Obafemi Martins marked his return from injury by netting a brace in Seattle Sounders’ 4-0 defeat of Orlando City in the American topflight.
Martins suffered an adductor injury during the Sounders' U.S. Open Cup match against the Portland Timbers on June 17 – which kept him out for two months.
He gave the Sounders the lead in the 17th minute after a one-two with Lamar Neagle left him all alone with only Orlando keeper Tally Hall to beat. The striker rifled his attempt past Hall for his eighth goal of the season, taking over from Clint Dempsey as the side's leading scorer this season and giving the Sounders the early advantage.
Martins then scored his second of the night shortly after the hour mark when he chipped Hall from close range before running through and putting the ball into the net as Thomas notched Seattle’s fourth of the day in second-half stoppage time, his first for the club since joining in June.
Without the Nigerian, Sigi Schmid’s men have dropped three straight league games. They now sixth on the Western Conference log with 35 points from 25 games.
